Abstract

This research was motivated by the low level of poetry reading skills among elementary school students which researchers found from various journal articles. The low level of poetry reading skills is indicated by the large number of students who have not reached the specified Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM). The causes of these problems are students reading poetry with inaccurate word pronunciation and intonation, students' lack of confidence when reading poetry, and students' lack of understanding in reading poetry well and correctly. This problem can be overcome by using the demonstration method, because the demonstration method can make students more confident in reading poetry, students are more active in conveying comments or suggestions regarding the results of reading poetry by friends, and students are able to use pronunciation, intonation and pauses, apart from that students have shown expression and appreciation when reading poetry. This research aims to provide an overview of the application of the demonstration method to students' poetry reading skills in elementary schools. The research method used in this research is Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by analyzing 11 journals resulting from previous research related to the use of demonstration methods on students' poetry reading skills in elementary schools. The analysis sample in this research consisted of 11 journal articles published in the period 2016 - 2023 which were studied through various aspects, namely: 1) research methods, 2) application using media, 3) and application based on indicators of poetry reading skills. Based on the findings of the analysis of the 11 journal articles, there are differences in the results, but overall it shows the conclusion that the demonstration method has an effect and can improve students' poetry reading skills in elementary schools.
