Abstract

Storage Tank is a type of liquid storage container in various industries, the tank itself is divided into 2 types, namely pressure vessels and atmospheric tanks. Storage tank designs also come in various shapes according to their application. For vertical storage tanks above ground level support construction is needed in the form of strong legs or support legs to support it. Tank body shell and liquid contained. The choice of material used by a storage tank is also influenced by the fluid or fluids being stored. In the production process carried out at PT.Bintang Mas Karya Nusantara, we often encounter requests for orders for stainless steel tank materials. Where this type of steel is rust resistant. When stainless material has been determined as the main body of the tank, the tank legs must also use the same material to avoid cross contamination.. At this stage, a problem arises when the stock material commonly used, namely 8 inch SCH40 pipe, takes a long time to procure, so considerations arise to use the available stock material as an alternative, for which comparable materials are needed which need to be analyzed for strength using the finite element method.One way to analyze this problem is with the finite element method which is implemented into computer software, one of which is Autodesk Inventor 2020. One of the features that can be used for stress analysis in this software is stress analysis, where analysis of maximum stress, maximum normal stress, The flexibility and safety factor of the material can be determined by inputting the type of material, the geometry of the object, and the forces acting on the object. In testing the legs of the Verical storage tank, stainless steel 304 material was chosen and carried out on three types of steel profiles, namely, 8 inch SCH40 pipe, Hollow Square 200x200x6, and H-Beam 200 where each steel profile will be given a load of 6 tons (60,000 N). which refers to the estimated total weight of the 20,000L Vertical Storage Tank, namely 24 tons, where each 4 legs must be able to support a load weighing 6 tons.
