Abstract

This research involved 5 Korean English speakers in a South Korean company in Cikarang and attempted to find out the forms of code switching, the functions of code switching, and the reasons for using code switching in Korean English speakers. Using a qualitative approach, as well as observation and interview methods to collect data. The results showed that the forms of code switching used included intra-sentential switching, inter-sentential switching, and tag switching. The functions of code switching include clarification, emphasis, and management of social identity. The reasons that influence the use of code switching include language ability, situational context, and social interaction. The conclusion of this study is that code switching is an important strategy in cross-cultural communication, facilitating understanding and integration between Korean and Indonesian employees.
