Abstract

This study aims to examine the instructional communication strategies of mathematics teachers at SMPIT Darul Muqorrobin, given the low mathematics scores of students who are not comparable to the non-academic achievements obtained. The purpose of this study is to determine the instructional communication strategies carried out by mathematics teachers in increasing the interest in learning of students in grades VII and VIII. The theory used in this study is instructional communication theory which emphasizes the teaching methods provided by teachers to students. Qualitative descriptive method was used with data collection through interviews, observations, and documentation. There is some information obtained through the head of the foundation, math teachers, and students with the lowest scores. The data included the scores of seventh grade students in odd semester 2022/2023 and even semester 2023/2024. The results show that a variety of learning methods, the use of technology, a reward approach, and reflection can increase students' interest and motivation to learn. Teachers use the Protas and Promes programs and group discussion methods to maximize student understanding. Effective instructional communication strategies tailored to students' needs can improve mathematics learning outcomes. Future research is expected to use instructional communication process theory and be able to change descriptive qualitative methods into quantitative methods.
