Abstract

Electrical energy is one of the main human needs, humans are very dependent on electricity. Sea water contains 3.5% calcium salts, meaning there are 35 grams (NaCl) in one liter of sea water. The NaCl compound is decomposed by H2O into Na+ and Cl-, thus producing an electric current. The aim of this test is to produce an alternative electrical energy design tool and determine the effectiveness of the lamp flame from varying the amount of salt. Salt water is used as an electrolyte solution which is composed of Na+ and Cl- ions which then form electric ions. Magnesium is used as an anode, when the anode is dipped in an electrolyte solution it will produce electricity which is passed through an electric current to the LED lamp. The salt water alternative energy prototype device was made using a hollow iron frame and plywood as a table base, and using a solution of salt water and magnesium. In the first test using 15 grams of salt and 300 ml of water it produces 1.272 V, the lamp is not yet on, the second test uses 30 grams of salt and 300 ml of water produces 1.689 V, 15 mA and the lamp is able to stay on for 120 hours, the third test uses 45 grams of salt and 300 ml of water produce 1,502 V and 4 mA, adding salt levels has an effect on keeping the lights on for 122 hours. The fourth test using 60 grams of salt and 300 ml water produces 1,542 V and 6 mA, from the experiment adding salt levels has an effect to keep the lights on for 127 hours. Keywords: Salt Weight, Voltage, Current and Lamp Flame
