Abstract

This research explores the influence of processing parameter variations on surface roughness in the milling process of stainless steel 304 using an HSS cutter end mill. Stainless steel 304, a commonly used austenitic alloy, is known for its corrosion resistance, high-temperature resistance, and good mechanical strength. HSS cutting tools are employed in the milling process, especially for metal materials like stainless steel, due to their optimal strength and wear resistance.The study focuses on the effects of variations in spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut on the surface roughness of the machined material. The research findings indicate that spindle speed has a significant impact, with higher speeds resulting in lower surface roughness. Conversely, higher feed rates lead to an increase in the level of roughness on the workpiece.The importance of selecting the appropriate tool variations is also discussed, as it can enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the machining process, affecting both time and production costs. Surface roughness is identified as a critical parameter in evaluating the quality of the workpiece, with lower roughness indicating higher quality. The implications of these findings are crucial for understanding and improving the milling process, particularly in the application of stainless steel 304 for manufacturing machine components.
