Abstract

Geographically, Indonesia is located in a tropical climate with very dominant rainy and dry seasons, thus affecting soil characteristics. Changes in weather result in a wet-dry cycle in which wetting and drying conditions are repeated so that the soil will experience changes in soil volume due to water content and a decrease in supporting factors for soil parameters (Mitchell, 1992). Expansive soil is problematic soil because it is easy to grow and shrink due to changes in soil water content. This condition greatly affects the mineral characteristics of the expansive soil. The way to overcome this is by stabilizing the soil so that it increases the bearing capacity of the soil and reduces the swelling and shrinkage of the expansive soil. The study used a laboratory experimental method in the form of soil stabilization by adding an addictive mixture such as Bottom Ash (BA) and Waste Dry Dust Collector (WDDC) with an addictive content of 2.5% each. The tests carried out are physical and mechanical tests, physical tests in the form of Sieve Analysis and Hydrometer testing. Meanwhile, the mechanical testing consisted of Swelling, Dry Wet Cycle, CBR (soaked), and UCS. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that the swelling value of the original soil was 8.5%. The original soil added with 2.5% WDDC had swelling values of 7.18% in non-cycle, 6.80% in cycle 1, and 6.56% in cycle 2. The CBR value at 5-inch penetration (soaked) had the highest value in the soil with 2.5% WDDC having a non-cyclical CBR value of 0.42%, a first cycle CBR of 0.34%, and a second cycle CBR of 0.30%. The highest value of free compressive strength (qu) in soaked conditions was obtained by the variation of soil mixed with 2.5% WDDC, namely 0.17 kg/cm2 (non-cycle), 0.20 kg/cm2 in cycle 1, and 0.13 kg/cm2. cm2 in cycle 2. Each cycle shows non-fluctuating results, so the additive has good resistance to weather changes. Keywords: Expansive Soil, Dry Wet Cycle Swelling, Bottom Ash, Waste Dry Dust Collector.
