Abstract

Recently, there is a phenomenon related to a pattern of communication that makes a person feel uncomfortable, resulting in an act of sexual harassment. Sexual harassment can be said to be an act of temptation that plunges into sexuality so that it makes the recipient feel disturbed. This study aims to examine the forms of catcalling interpersonal communication messages among students at the Islamic University "45" Bekasi, with a focus on verbal communication of sexual harassment. The results of this study are expected to provide a better understanding of catcalling and the importance of fighting and reporting such acts. This study uses Suranto's interpersonal communication theory which explains that the communication process occurs through steps such as the desire to communicate, encoding, sending messages, decoding, and responding. This study used a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. It's important to remember that wanting to communicate does not justify or validate catcalling, which is still considered a form of harassment that is abusive, unwanted, and inappropriate. Researchers provide suggestions to related parties to continue this research in order to get better development as a reference and contribution to social change. The researcher also hopes that readers can take the positive side of this research in an effort to stop catcalling and increase awareness of the importance of fighting sexual harassment. Suggestions for survivors are to realize the importance of reporting catcalling cases that harm them, while catcalling perpetrators are expected to realize that this action violates the law and needs to improve better interactions with others.
