Abstract

This research is motivated by the problem of students' early reading skills which are still low in grade 1A SD Bani Saleh 1 Bekasi. Based on the results of observations, it proves that in learning Indonesian, students' initial reading skills are classified as very low and incomplete. Because, out of 22 students, 3 students could not read and recognize letters at all, 9 students already knew and could distinguish letters but were not yet fluent in reading (still spelling) such as "bola" read bb - oo - ll - aa, and there were 10 students who can read fluently. The purpose of this study was to determine the increase in beginning reading skills through the multisensory learning method in class 1A students of SD Bani Saleh 1 Bekasi. The research method used is the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method. This research was conducted in 2 cycles. Each cycle includes the stages of planning, Acting, observing, reflecting. In each cycle the researcher uses a reading test instrument and a rubric for assessing initial reading skills. The subjects of this study were grade 1A students at SD Bani Saleh 1 Bekasi, with a total of 22 students consisting of 10 girls and 12 boys. The indicator of the success of this researcher is 90% of students get a score of 100. The results showed that there was an increase in students' initial reading skills in each cycle, namely in the first cycle the classical completeness was 86% with an average score of 85.80 and in the second cycle the classical completeness increased to 100% with an average score of 100. The difference in the increase in the percentage of completeness classical in cycle I and cycle II is 14%. Thus it can be concluded that the multisensory method can improve the beginning reading skills of grade 1A students at SD Bani Saleh 1 Bekasi.
