Abstract

Power quality problems are defined as all problems related to electric power in the form of voltage, current and frequency deviations that cause damage to electrical equipment. The power factor is one of the good and bad indicators of the quality of electric power. The power factor itself is influenced by the type of load used. The Salemba Pawnshop Building, Central Jakarta has 1 low-voltage main panel that is connected to inductive loads, causing inductive reactive power which causes the power factor to be low. Based on this, it is necessary to have an analysis and technical study of the electrical system. The method used for this research is quantitative research. The results showed that the required capacitor at the Salemba Pawnshop Building was if before compensation was carried out the value was 200 KVar and after repair/compensation the value was 350 KVar, in this case a very large improvement/comparison is seen which is almost more or less 50%. The power factor value before the repair was 0.75 and after the repair was carried out the value increased to 0.95. This is close to the recommended power factor value because the best power factor value is cos phi = 1. Thus it can be concluded that the results of improving the power factor by compensating for the reactive power of the capacitor bank panels as a compensator result in a decrease in the use of electrical power. This shows that the use of electric power is more optimal and there have been savings in electricity usage, so that these savings will have an impact on reducing costs.
