Abstract
The need for electrical energy is increasing day by day along with the increasing human population on earth, which may not be fulfilled by available traditional energy sources. So that it can be ascertained that conventional energy will be increasingly scarce and expensive, so one alternative is to develop renewable energy such as wind energy. Wind turbines are one way to harness wind energy with the help of a turbine generator, the wind is able to convert wind kinetic energy into electrical energy. The turbine model that will be examined in this study is the horizontal axis wind turbine. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of varying the length of the blade on the value of current, power and efficiency. This study used an experimental test method by looking for wind speed, air temperature, and electric current through measuring instrument readings. The wind power, turbine power and efficiency are obtained from the calculation results. The research material is a horizontal axis wind turbine with 6 blades, 0.12 m blade width and blade length variations of 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 m with a thickness of 0.002 m. The results showed that the greatest current was obtained at the length variation 0.3 m with a wind speed of 3.5 m/s of 0.16 amperes. The greatest generator power is obtained from a blade length variation of 0.3 m with a wind speed of 3.5 m/s of 1.1 watts. The highest efficiency value is obtained at a blade length variation of 0.3 m with a wind speed of 3.5 m/s, which is 14.96%. Keywords : Wind turbine, Turbine Power, Efficiency
