Abstract

In accordance with Law Number 6 of 2020 concerning the stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law Number 2 of 2020 concerning the 2020 Regional Head Election during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Regional Head Election in 2020 must still be held even in the midst of the Covid-19 virus outbreak. The Karawang Regency General Election Commission has prepared strategies, especially in socializing the 2020 simultaneous elections, because in the 2020 simultaneous elections, the socialization carried out must minimize face-to-face meetings. In the last three periods of Pilkada in Karawang Regency, there has always been an increase, this shows there is a strong synergy between the community and the organizers of the election. The purpose of this study is to analyze the strategy of the General Election Commission of Karawang Regency and what factors influence the political participation of the community in the 2020 simultaneous regional elections in Karawang Regency. The researcher examines this matter by using the constructivism paradigm with qualitative research methods accompanied by a case study research approach. The data collection techniques: observation, in-depth interviews, literature study, and documentation, as well as taking informants with purposive sampling technique. The results of the study stated that the strategy of the Karawang Regency General Election Commission in socializing the 2020 Pilkada focused on community leaders or influential people in their environment and forging with many partnerships such as community organizations and people with disabilities. The most influencing factors in community participation are the level of community self-awareness, political stimulation and education provided to the community as well as a good political situation affecting the increase in community participation, especially in Karawang Regency.
