Abstract

This scientific writing is entitled "Improving Understanding of the Concept of the Properties of Light Through the Cooperative Model Type Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD)" in elementary schools, the material for science is taken from everyday life events, for example, the material properties of light. In order for the material to be easily accepted by students, the teacher relates the material to everyday life. Teachers do not only teach with lectures or discussions but by using the STAD model to increase students' understanding of concepts. Prediction of results using the STAD learning model for students is believed to be able to improve conceptual understanding on several indicators of conceptual understanding in the cognitive domain, namely: 1) restating a concept. 2) classify an object according to its concept. 3) set an example and not an example. 4) present the concept in the form of an argument. 5) develop the provisions of a concept. 6) make use of certain procedures. 7) apply concepts or algorithms. Therefore, this paper was created as literature to increase students understanding of concepts using the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) model.
