Abstract

In the current era of technological advances, gasoline engine transportation continues to increase which results in increased consumption of fossil fuels. The increase in consumption of fossil fuels can cause the availability of petroleum to become depleted if its use is not restricted. Because oil is a non-renewable resource. Therefore this problem can be overcome by utilizing alternative energy sources to be used as fuel, one of which is bioethanol. Bioethanol or ethanol has several functions, including as an octane booster, which means that ethanol can increase the octane value with a positive impact on the engine and fuel efficiency. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a mixture of bioethanol and pertalite fuel on engine performance and to determine the fuel mixture that produces the highest engine performance. The research method used is the experimental method. Based on the results of research that has been done, obtained a significant effect of the addition of bioethanol. The addition of bioethanol to the pertalite fuel composition increases torque and engine power. The E5 mixture has an effect of 12.29% on engine torque and 0.39% on engine power. The E10 mixture has an effect of 16.40% on engine torque and 8.21% on engine power. The E15 mixture has an effect of 22.09% on engine torque and 11.73% on engine power. The highest torque value is produced by E15 fuel, which is 22.78 Nm. And the highest power value is produced by E15 fuel which is equal to 8.7 HP. The addition of 0%, 5%, 10% and 15% bioethanol shows that the greater the bioethanol content in the pertalite fuel composition, the greater the power and torque produced.
