Abstract

Altruism can be interpreted as an act of helping others without expecting anything in return. One of the factors that play a role in this altruistic personality is empathy. In Islam this empathy is closely related to human morality which is reflected in the religious nature of the individual. The nature of religiosity can be one aspect that can reflect the relationship between individuals and society. This study aims to find out how the altruism of students living in Islamic boarding schools is described. This research is a quantitative study involving 105 students from MA At-Taqwa Pusat Putra. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling. Methods of data collection using interviews and psychological measurement scales. The psychological measurement scale used is the scale of religiosity and altruism. The reliability test of the psychological measurement scale using the Alpha Cronbach's formula yielded 0.873 for the religiosity scale, and 0.850 for the altruism scale. This research was conducted to examine the relationship between religiosity and altruism in At-Taqwa students. The results of this study indicate that the value of the correlation coefficient (r) of religiosity for altruism in students is r = 0.596 with a significant level of p = 0.000 where p <0.05, meaning that there is a positive significant relationship between religiosity and altruism, meaning that the greater the religiosity, the greater the altruism . From these results it was concluded that Ha1 was accepted and H01 was rejected.
