Abstract

Steel is one type of material that is widely used in the fields of industry, construction, and automotive. As one of the supporting materials, its role is very large, but this steel has the disadvantage that it is susceptible to corrosion. Corrosion is a process of destruction that occurs in steel. Corrosion in steel is unavoidable but the corrosion rate process can be slowed down by controlling the corrosion rate (Femiana Gapsari, 2017: 4). One way to inhibit the corrosion rate is by administering inhibitors. Ketapang leaves contain tannin compounds that can function as corrosion inhibitors. Ketapang leaf extract is used as an organic inhibitor to reduce the corrosion rate in A36 steel with rainwater and well water environmental media. Studies have been conducted with variations in soaking time of 1 68 hours, 336 hours, and 504 hours with the administration of inhibitor variations of 1 layer, 2 layers, 3 layers and without inhibitors. From the results of the study using rainwater corrosion media, the highest corrosion rate was found in samples that were not given inhibitors, namely 6,687 mpy at 504 hours of soaking. While the lowest corrosion rate was found in samples given 3 inhibitor layers, namely 3,623 mpy at 504 hours. In the sample given 3 layers of inhibitors, the inhibitor efficiency value was greater than the others with a value of 45.82%, From the results of the study using well water corrosion media, the highest corrosion rate was obtained in samples that were not given inhibitors, namely 6,259 mpy at 504 hours of soaking. While the lowest corrosion rate was found in the sample given 3 inhibitor layers, namely 3,372 mpy at 504 hours of soaking. In the sample given 3 layers of inhibitors, the efficiency value of the inhibitor was greater than the others with a value of 40.53%.
