Abstract

The crank case component is the main component of the engine unit. One way to improve process effectiveness and product quality is to understand the process flow of each product component manufacture, in this case the process flow for crank case component manufacture. Understanding this process flow aims to meet operator safety standards, process quality standards and support the use of company facilities so that they can be used in the long term. Crank case components are made through a machining process involving a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) tapping center machine which basically has the principle automatic work with programmed control system. In addition, considering that the equipment used on CNC machines such as cutting tools, jigs & fixtures, to machine maintenance requires a relatively high cost to support the stability of the production process. In the mass production process the dominant occurrence is the result of the 5.5 diameter drilling process resulting in an unstable pitch process and failure to achieve the Cp & Cpk targets. In-depth understanding is required in terms of the use of the type of cutting tool that is appropriate to the conditions of the product to be machined. In this study using a point angle from a point angle of 120° to 160° in this case is done to minimize the occurrence of a shift in the pitch of the product to be processed to the pitch of the cutting tool drill and the projected length of the tool from the projected length of the cutting tool 70mm to 40mm, From the results of the influence it was found that to overcome the problem of pitch instability in the 5.5 diameter drilling process, namely by increasing the point angle to 160° and projecting a 40mm tool length on the cutting tool drill to be used.
