Abstract

Lathe is a type of machine tool used to cut objects that are rotated. Machining work in the metal-making or metalworking industry is huge because machines can work and frame round and hollow objects such as making shafts. The lathe process is a workpiece that keeps the cutting cycle done by rotating the workpiece and then applying it to a device which is moved translationally according to the axis of rotation of the workpiece. Vibration that occurs in the machine usually causes unwanted effects: such as discomfort, inaccuracy in measurement. Surface is an outer part of the surface of a solid object with its surroundings. But in practice it is difficult to get components with really smooth surfaces. Based on some of the things that have been explained, the purpose of this study was to determine the cutting parameters in the lathe process to produce tool vibration and surface roughness. Is there any influence of cutting parameters on tool vibration and surface roughness in the ideal St 41 steel lathe process. The results showed that the machine rotation speed was 360 rpm, the feed depth was 2 mm, and the feed speed was 0.45 mm/s, which resulted in a tool vibration value of 0.63 mm/s, while the surface roughness level obtained was 1.716 µm with the category N7 tolerance standard. The higher the rotational speed and the higher the depth of ingestion and the faster the infeed speed, the chisel that cuts the workpiece will experience high vibrations and the chisel cuts more heavily. The speed of the feed movement is very influential on the results of the quality of the surface roughness of the workpiece.
