Abstract

Social anxiety is a psychological problem that can hinder adolescents' ability to interact with their social environment. Self-concept and body image are psychological factors that are assumed to influence social anxiety. This study aimed to examine the effect of self-concept and body image on social anxiety among female students at Bina Karya Mandiri Vocational High School, Bekasi. This study employed a quantitative approach using a probability sampling technique through cluster sampling involving 185 female students. Data were collected using self-concept, body image, and social anxiety scales and were analyzed using Spearman correlation and multiple linear regression. The results showed a significant negative relationship between self-concept and social anxiety (ρ = -0.377; p < 0.001) and between body image and social anxiety (ρ = -0.280; p < 0.001). Simultaneously, self-concept and body image had a significant effect on social anxiety (F = 18.440; p < 0.001), contributing 15.9% of the variance (R² = 0.159). These findings indicate that more positive self-concept and body image are associated with lower levels of social anxiety among female students.
